I . Graduate Studies

Semester-long courses are offered to M.D.s and D.M.D.s in the fields of clinical Medicine
and Dentistry listed below. All studies are conducted in Hebrew.
Residents in clinical medicine can earn a diploma in the respective clinical field by
attending 6 - 8 semesters and successfully completing all academic requirements.

II. Advanced Studies in Clinical-Related Subjects

B. Courses, workshops and seminars for physicians in various clinical fields, e.g., Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).


III. Continuing Medical Education

CME courses for primary care physicians in General Medicine and Pediatrics.

IV. International Postgraduate Training in Medicine

The School conducts an International Postgraduate Training Program in specialized topics and techniques in
medicine for foreign physicians. Sponsored by the School of Continuing Medical Education and the Israel
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the program provides individualized postgraduate training in medicine in English,
and the opportunity to share medical knowledge and forge ties with professionals from other parts of the world.
A Graduation Certificate is awarded upon completion of the program. Studies are conducted in English.
Grants covering tuition and expenses are available for applicants from certain geographic regions.

V. Medical Laboratory Sciences

One- to two-semester courses in various fields of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Open to all laboratory personnel.

THE INTERNATIONAL POSTGRADUATE TRAINING PROGRAM IN MEDICINE



This program is a joint venture between The School of Continuing Medical Education at the
Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, and MASHAV (Center for International Cooperation)
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Program offers a 2.5-month postgraduate clinical training course to
overseas physicians in various specialized fields of interest. The Program is conducted in English.
Upon completion of a course, a graduation certificate is awarded from one of the disciplines below.

Who is eligible?

Physicians with at least four years of experience and a comprehensive knowledge of spoken and written English.

Applicants are assigned to an appropriate department affiliated to the Sackler School of Medicine
in one of the 13 hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
Trainees work in the assigned hospital department 5 days a week.
They participate in the routine activities of the host department,
including departmental seminars and conferences, and supervised rounds,
bedside instruction, surgery and invasive procedures. Lectures on general topics in medicine,
health sciences, and cultural aspects of Israel are given on the Tel Aviv University campus.
A significant number of patients speak basic English, and hospital staff will assist the trainee where necessary.

Grants

Applicants from certain geographic regions are awarded grants from MASHAV covering tuition,
lectures, health insurance, malpractice insurance, hotel accommodation, professional tours and organized
excursions around Israel, and in addition receive a monthly stipend of about $250 to partially cover the
cost of living in Tel Aviv, which is approximately $700 a month. Information about eligibility for grants and
application forms are available at Israeli Embassies.

Grants are not available for applicants from the United States, Canada and certain other industrialized
countries, and these physicians have to cover their own expenses, including housing and living expenses.
Accommodation,insurance and necessary licenses for these applicants are arranged through the Program office.

Applicants who are not legible to receive the grant but have the means to support themselves are encouraged
to contact the Program office for further information.

Application Procedures

Applicants must complete the Application Form and provide the following supporting materials:

1. A resume in English including education, work experience, positions, awards and publications.
2. An original NOTARIZED copy of the M.D. diploma and License to Practice Medicine certificate
from the applicant's native country, translated into English if necessary.
3. A letter of recommendation in English from the applicant's employer with an original signature
and institution seal, stating present position and responsibilities in the hospital, and what is
expected from the applicant when he/she returns to the hospital.
4. Documentation of proficiency in English from a recognized teaching institute.
5. Four recent passport photographs

Note: Participants are given a three-month visa limited to one entry.

PSYCHOTHERAPY PROGRAM

The Psychotherapy program offers a three-year training program leading to a Diploma in Psychotherapy, and advanced studies for graduates of the program and faculty.
Curriculum

A. Basic training leading to a Diploma in Psychotherapy

1. Theoretical courses (required and elective)

2. Individual and Group Supervision

A dissertation is required.
Admission Requirements: Open to M.D. Residents in Psychiatry,
psychiatrists, psychologists with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and
at least one year experience in the mental health field,
and social workers with an M.S.W. and at least 3 years experience in the mental health field.

Candidates must have undergone personal psychotherapy prior to admission

Recommendations are required; candidates have two interviews in the process of admission.

B. Advanced Studies:

Four-year course in the following subject:
Self Psychology

Two-year courses in the following subjects:
- Intersubjective Perspective in Psychotherapy
- Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Children
- Primitive Mental States

One-year course in the following subject:
Psychoanalytic Approach in Group Psychotherapy

Admission Requirements: Open to graduates of the basic psychotherapy programs,experienced therapists members of the faculty.
